Bilingual Film Payanam Release on February 4, 2011

The bilingual film starring Nagarjuna and Prakash Raj in lead roles was supposed to hit screens for Diwali 2010, but remained inside cans due to lots of continuous releases in both Tamil and Telugu. Now as the makers have found February to be the favorable time, they have decided to get it released by the first week.

Titled as Gaganam in Telugu, the bilingual movie is directed by Radha Mohan. This is the first time, the director is making an action-thriller as his previous films were patently rom-com entertainers.

The film revolves around a domestic flight between Mumbai-Chennai being hijacked by terrorists and they force the pilot for emergency landing at Tirupathi airport. Government now appoints a proficient commando (Nagarjuna) to save the hijacked victims and a senior bureaucrat (played by Prakash Raj) to negotiate with terrorists. The highlighting traits about the film is that Nagarjuna will have not have any pairs and his usual ‘romance’ factors will be missing here. Radha Mohan assures that though it’s an edge-seated action thriller, there will be some situational comedies that will tickle the funny bones.

Though Kannan has said in a statement to the media that he and his team will be back to Chennai by the first week of December, this is not the end of his filming stint in the beautiful South Indian state.

New Tamil movie Om Obama Release On December

It may have an all new cast, but journalist-turned-filmmaker Janaki Viswanathan’s Tamil movie “Om Obama” certainly has one globally known star – the American president who stars via cutouts, posters and even a song!

New Tamil movie Om Obama Release On December
“Broadly the story is about a village that transforms economically after an export garment unit was built nearby and how it gets hit due to global recession. There are various sub-plots that make up the storyline,” iswanathan told IANS. She says the Kedarapalayam villagers started praying for Obama’s victory in the US presidential elections because they thought his economic policies would uplift the economies of the garment unit and their own.The sub-plots of “Om Obama”, releasing in December, include romance, grassroots politics, panchayat elections and others.

Viswanathan, a former print and television journalist, says the star cast is entirely new and the US Consulate gave a helping hand in identifying some Americans to star in the movie.”Many villagers where the movie was shot have acted in the film,” she said while declining to reveal the real name of the village that is around 200 km from here. “Perhaps this is the first time there is an Urdu song in a Tamil movie. The movie has four songs and the music is scored by Paul. J. There is also a song `Obama nee vaama, koode serndhu aadalama’ (Come Obama, shall we dance together),” she said. Cagey about the budget, Viswanathan says the film was shot in 35 days. Asked about the germination of the idea, she said: “I was working on a story on the impact of global recession on an Indian village when I chanced upon a news report on the crisis faced by Tirupur garment exporting units.”  She said the article quoted Tirupur exporters as saying that they would pray for Obama’s victory in the 2008 US presidential elections as it would be better for Indian business. “That was the spark and from there I developed the plot,” Viswanathan added.

The movie is expected to be released in Tamil Nadu by the end of this year, close on the heels of Obama’s Nov 6-9 visit. “With subtitles we plan to release in other languages. We are also planning an international release and in movie festival circuits,” Viswanathan said. “Om Obama” is her third movie, the first two being national award winner “Kutty” and “Kanavu Meippada Vendum”. The first two movies broke even and she is confident that “Om Obama” will make profits! She is also confident that the movie will get entertainment tax exemption from the Tamil Nadu government as the title is in Tamil. In the state if a film has title in Tamil, it gets tax exemption.

Bhagyanjali Hurles Torture Charges on villain Actor Velu

Bhagyanjali

In the latest face-off in Kollywood, a starlet from Kerala has hurled a slew of charges against a villain actor, including mental torture, harassment, extortion and blackmail.
If 21-year-old Bhagyanjali is to be believed, actor Velu has been inflicting mental torture and harassment by stalking her and constantly pestering her to marry him ever since she co-starred with him in Unnai Kadhalikiraen.

Her complaint to the City Police Commissioner alleged that she became friendly with him after acting together in the Tamil film, but that he misunderstood her and resorted to issuing threats.
She accused him of forcing her to sign on papers claiming that she had borrowed Rs 15 lakh from him.

Bhagyanjali, who was in the city to attend a function, visited the Vepery police station on Saturday to answer queries.
Countering her claims, Velu’s family told the police that she had borrowed Rs 40,000 from the actor about a year ago and had signed papers to that effect.
They alleged that she was yet to return the money and had cooked up the charges to evade repayment.

A senior police official told Express that an inquiry was in progress and no FIR had been registered so far.

A police team that went to Velu’s house on Vaikkolkaran Street in Purasavakkam in search of the actor returned emptyhanded.

The actor has been asked to report to the police station, as the cops want to know his version of the unfolding sordid saga

Her physical challenges are no way stopping Abhinaya, who played Sasikumar’s sister in ‘Naadodigal’. The actress, who is there in Sasi’s next venture ‘Easan’, is stepping into Sandalwood too.

According to sources, Abhinaya will enact the same role she did in ‘Naadodigal’ in the Kannada remake of the movie, which would have leading actor Puneeth Rajkumar as the protagonist.

Interestingly, this is third time for the dumb and deaf actress to do the role as she repeated the act earlier in ‘Sambo Siva Sambo’, the Telugu remake of ‘Naadodigal’. “She is happy with the hat trick”, sources say.

Bollywood Actress Neetu Chandra wants Tamanna’s place in kollywood

Neetu Chandra has only two Tamil films in her hand. One is Ameer’s Aadhi Bhaghavan and a film which has Jayam Ravi in the lead role.

Though the female lead role in the Ajith’s Mangaatha has slipped away from her hands, her ambition is to conquer Thamanna’s place. Because of this she is learning Tamil in her house by engaging a Tamil teacher in her house in Mumbai.

Since Ameer’s Aadhi Bhaghavan may fetch her the place she anticipates, she is getting ready to dub for the film in Tamil in her own voice. Though Neetu’s act may look avaricious, there is no other go to welcome an actress who loves Tamil.
